Thanks to the generosity of more than 300 friends of Hope Solutions (Hope Solutions), this year’s Ruby Slippers-There’s No Place Like Home raised over $240,000 in net proceeds to support Contra Costa families and individuals impacted by poverty and homelessness!

The evening’s highlight was hearing from Lori, a resident of Garden Park Apartments (GPA). She shared how Hope Solutions’s housing and support services have had a tremendous impact on her life and her journey toward self-sufficiency. As a teenager, Lori discovered she had a debilitating physical illness that finally received a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis at 21 years old. The jobs Lori worked would not allow for any affordable housing and she had to stay with family, friends and shelters.
After her second daughter was born, she heard GPA had a fully furnished apartment waiting for her family. Lori receives ongoing support in attending doctor appointments and maximizes the on-site resources and programs Hope Solutions offers.
“It’s hard to say what it means to me to have a safe place to live. I don’t have to move anymore. I can finally breathe. It’s so much more than a place to live, and I love paying rent!”
