“At the end of 2023, I made the difficult decision to return to the Bay Area-a place I grew up in but never planned to come back to, largely because of the systems that seem designed to fail us. When I
returned, Nyla and I were homeless—moving between friends’ couches, family members’ homes,
hotels, and any space I could find. I was in uncomfortable and unpredictable environments because I
had nowhere else to go. But I knew that regardless of where I landed, I had to rise above my
circumstances—for myself and for my daughter, Nyla.
I began researching resources for
single mothers in the Bay Area,
determined to create a better life. I
learned about 211 and made it a
point to call regularly, hoping for a
breakthrough. Over time—though
it felt like forever—I started to lose
hope. I thought, “Maybe they
won’t even call. Maybe my case
will be overlooked.” Then one day,
I got a call that changed everything.
That call was from Ronald Broach,
a Case Manager with Hope Solutions
From our first conversation, I believed he wasn’t just a case manager—he was more like a credible messenger and he became
a partner in my journey. Mr. Ronald made it clear that I wasn’t alone anymore.
He committed to doing everything he could to help me secure housing and access
resources. And he kept that promise. Although he repeatedly reminded me that this journey is 90% me and 10% him.
Thanks to his efforts, I was connected with Career Navigator Ms. Erica, who helped me explore career
paths and quickly find employment in my field of interest. Within a month of joining the program, I
was working. And that was just the beginning.
Together, we created a road-map for my goals—covering employment, finances, housing, and healing.
Mr. Ronald didn’t just help me fill out paperwork; he gave me real-life guidance, tools, and
encouragement. Through Hope Solutions, I also received holiday gifts, essential gift cards, and
wraparound services that made an immediate difference in our lives.
Mr. Ronald always reminded me, “This is YOUR journey—and it’s up to you to put in the work.” I
carried that with me every step of the way. Even when life threw setbacks—like my recent surgery, which required me to relocate again—I stayed focused. That’s when I met Ms. Leticia, my Housing Navigator, who helped me apply for apartments and continued walking with me through the process.
This journey hasn’t been easy. It hasn’t been fast. But it’s been worth it. I’ve had moments of doubt,
wondering if I was truly deserving. And every time, Mr. Ronald would remind me, “You’ve worked for
this. You are deserving, not only of this but greater things to come.”
And we did. Together, we made it happen. Today, my daughter Nyla and I are in our own home. A 2
bedroom, 2 bathroom, luxurious unit at the Lakeshore Apartment complex. We’re safe. We’re healing.
We’re stable. And we are beyond grateful. Although Nyla will probably continue to sleep with me until
she’s 18 (LOL), I am comfortable knowing that she has her own space to play. A far cry from living in
a 1 bedroom with 8 people.Hope Solutions has been a true blessing. Their team—especially Mr. Ronald—helped me feel secure, confident, and supported. I wasn’t just a case—I was treated like a human being with potential, strength, and purpose.
