Mayor Darling and Council Member Silva are being honored for their unwavering commitment to addressing the affordable housing crisis and improving the lives of Walnut Creek’s most vulnerable residents. Their visionary leadership and tireless advocacy have been instrumental in bringing innovative housing solutions to fruition, most notably the Walnut Creek Hope Village at Grace Presbyterian Church.

“Mayor Darling and Council Member Silva exemplify the very best in public service,” said Jasmine Tarkoff, Consultant, Strategic Initiatives, Hope Solutions.  “Their ability to unite key stakeholders and navigate the complexities of housing development has been crucial in making safe, affordable housing a reality for many in our community.”

The Community Hero Award will be presented during Hope Solutions’ annual gala celebration, “Ruby Slippers – There’s No Place Like Home,” scheduled for March 22, 2025, at the Club at Castlewood in Pleasanton. This event not only serves to honor the award recipients but also to raise awareness and support for Hope Solutions’ ongoing efforts to end homelessness and housing insecurity in Contra Costa County.

“The success of projects like the Walnut Creek Hope Village demonstrates the power of collaborative efforts between local government, non-profit organizations, and community partners”, said Deanne Pearn, CEO Hope Solutions. “We commend Mayor Darling and Council Member Silva for their role in making this innovative housing community a reality and setting an inspiring example for other jurisdictions to follow.”
